"Morocco To Miami" Thomas Fuchs Tavolo Dinner Series celebrates Aidan Marak's Dinner Highlighting The Besty Hotel Show's Artists
Artist Aidan Marak
As a barware, lighting and home accessories design company, we at Thomas Fuchs Creative specialize in handmade goods. Every week we give you behind the scenes to the people, places and things that inspire us.
Our "Thomas Fuchs Fine Art Tavolo Dinner Series" has highlighted celebrated artists such as Tom Criswell, (whose work was favored by the late Chuck Close), award-winning sculptor Frida Baranek and mixed media artist Tony Vazquez. Incorporating the artists’ work into an intimate home environment that celebrates visual themes and cultural influences with an immersive tablescape and menu, the dinners highlight what is most important to the artist, the work and the architecture, arts and design community.

On Tuesday December 5th 2023 In the first of the dinner series as a partnership outside our home, Thomas and I took the Tavolo dinner theme to the Coral Gables home and studio of artist Aidan Marak. Originally from Morocco, Marak’s work references her upbringing and fuses Berber, Arab, African, Mediterranean and Jewish influences, honoring heritage while focusing on complicated emotions and issues in culture, religion, sexism, family and politics.

Women’s issues, both ancient and contemporary, are at the forefront of Marak’s abstract, oversized collages and portraits, rendered in Japanese craft paper, Arabic, Hebrew and Chinese newspapers, silk paper, gold ink, spray paint and acrylic. To match Aidan Maraks art Thomas created a 24 Karat Hand Blown Murano Collection of drinking Glasses inspired by all the gold we saw in Morocco combines with the pinks, purples and greys found at sunrise and sunset.
Michou in Designer Marrakshi Life
Aidan Marak is an alter ego, an anagram of Nadia Laallaoui Karam, chosen to provide an alternate creative life and focus separate from Nadia’s traditional roles of mother, wife and daughter. We chose to feature Marak in our dinner series because of her focus on women’s global causes. Her work raises the real question of how we look at ourselves, her portraits suggest an alternate universe of introspection, perspective and self analysis.
Marak’s Moroccan culture is built on entertaining at home over restaurant dining, where conversation breaks barriers and inspiration is flowing and unguarded. This Tavolo dinner was a collaboration between Thomas Fuchs Creative tabletop and Aidan Marak, a celebration with Moroccan couscous and tajines, with a discussion and studio tour of Marak’s latest pieces.
