Giddy Up: The Year of the Horse and the Art of Making the Old New Again

RENOWN GEMOLOGIST HAYLEY HENNING

Welcome to our ONLINE STORE and blog.

Every week we invite you for a peak behind the scene to see the things, people and places that inspire us.

This week we introduce you to our neighbour and good friend Hayley Henning.

They say the Year of the Horse is about momentum, independence, elegance, and fearless forward motion. It’s about energy that doesn’t wait for permission—about instinct, confidence, and knowing exactly when to leap. In other words: it’s time to giddy up.

Sometimes inspiration doesn’t arrive in grand salons or gilded showrooms. Sometimes it quite literally bumps into you in your own lobby.

That’s exactly what happened to me this January, when I ran into our neighbor- Hayley Henning —an internationally known jewelry aficionado with an eye so sharp it borders on instinct. Fresh off a week-long January birthday celebration (because why ever limit joy to one day?), she ended it with a bang: a perfectly customized look that stopped me in my tracks.

Dolce & Gabbana Gloves & Purse

Was the horse before the cart? Maybe. But the encounter instantly transported me back to one of my very first Instagram posts—Dolce & Gabbana jeweled gloves, unapologetically maximal, impossibly glamorous. The realization hit me: this moment wasn’t random. It was part of a longer conversation about personal style, inheritance, and reinvention.

Her outfit told that story beautifully.

Denim—elevated not by trend, but by memory. Her mother’s precious earrings. Antique pins, reimagined. Heirlooms given new life, not locked away. Denim and diamonds, yes—but more importantly, history and individuality. Each piece carried a past, yet together they felt utterly modern.

This is the future of luxury.

Not chasing the next thing, but customizing what you already love.

Sotheby's Frank's Files

Which is why she should absolutely be seated and featured on Sotheby’s Frank’s Files, hosted by the ever-brilliant Frank Everett. Because the real story today isn’t about running to the usual maisons or the expected names. It’s about rejecting the idea that you need something new to feel relevant.

The most powerful move? Reinvention.

Michou & Thomas Reinventing our Heirlooms

That philosophy is deeply personal to me. My grandfather was Boucheron, working between Beirut and Egypt—a time and place where jewelry wasn’t just worn, it was lived in. Pieces evolved with their owners. Nothing was precious because it was untouched; it was precious because it was loved.

I customized how I wear the jewels in the safe the same way above inspired by the Maharaja of Patiala —layered, mixed, unexpected worn at the annual White Party hosted the La Contessa Giustiniani at Palazzo Giustiniani in Puglia. Not preserving the past behind glass, but carrying it forward.

And that’s the metaphor I’m carrying into this Year of the Horse.

This is a year about customization. About momentum fueled by meaning. About making the old new again—not by erasing its story, but by honoring it in a fresh way. Jewelry just happens to be the perfect metaphor: inherited, adapted, personal, powerful.

So let’s giddy up.

Let’s move forward with intention. Let’s wear our histories boldly. And let’s make this the year we stop asking what’s new—and start asking how we can make what we already love ours again.

Have a great week!
